Eva Maria Charlotte Michelle Ibbotson (née Wiesner; 21 January – 20 October ) [1] was an Austrian-born British novelist, known for her children's literature. A recurrent theme of Ibbotson’s stories, for all ages, is finding a place to belong. This is a reflection of her own remarkable life. Eva Wiesner was born in Vienna in to a non-practising Jewish family, but her incompatible young parents divorced, her father moving to a job in Edinburgh and her mother lured away by the Berlin theatre scene. They left Eva in Vienna in the care of her.
